What Is Disaster Response?

When most people think of mental health organizations, they often picture therapy, support groups, and medication management. At AllHealth Network, our work also includes a specialized Disaster Response Team made up of trained staff members who volunteer their time and expertise to support the community during times of crisis.

The AllHealth Network Disaster Response Team does not self-deploy. The team responds only when invited or requested by county emergency managers, schools, public health departments, or other coordinating agencies following a disaster or community tragedy. This ensures that our services are integrated into an organized, coordinated response that best supports those affected.

What Is Disaster Response?

Disaster response involves timely, short-term support provided before, during, and after a crisis, with a focus on immediate emotional and practical needs. When requested by partner agencies, AllHealth Network’s Disaster Response Team may be asked to support groups impacted by events such as the sudden death of a peer at a school, an act of mass violence, or a natural disaster like a flood or wildfire. Other emergency responders may assist survivors with medical needs or physical safety, while our Disaster Response Team focuses on the behavioral health and psychological needs of the person.

All team members are trained in Psychological First Aid and Disaster Behavioral Health Response. Their role is to help stabilize individuals experiencing acute stress, provide emotional support, assist with coping strategies, and connect people with loved ones, resources, or basic needs such as food or water. Disaster response teams may also be found in settings such as schools, police departments, and nonprofit organizations.

Volunteers do not need to be licensed clinicians to serve on the Disaster Response Team. Team members do not replace licensed counselors, EMTs, or other emergency responders. Instead, disaster response focuses on supporting psychological well-being and immediate needs in the days or weeks following a crisis, always working alongside and under the direction of the lead responding agencies.

AllHealth Network has built strong, trusted relationships with first responders, school districts, and public health partners to ensure our support is provided appropriately and effectively when requested. These coordinated efforts help strengthen community resilience and promote healing after difficult events.

AllHealth Network is deeply proud of the Disaster Response Team and grateful for the dedication, compassion, and professionalism they bring when our community needs support the most.
