May is Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the importance of mental well-being and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health struggles. This month, let’s come together to raise awareness, offer support, and remind others that help is always available.

One powerful way to do that is by talking openly about suicide – a topic that, when addressed directly, can save lives. Many people at risk for suicide show signs beforehand, but without the right tools, those around them may not know how to help. Prevention training builds confidence and awareness, fostering a community that’s more compassionate, informed, and prepared to act when it matters most.

The QPR Institute is dedicated to preventing suicide and saving lives by providing accessible training and resources. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer—a proven method designed to help individuals recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and respond effectively. As the QPR Institute explains, “Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives”.

QPR teaches individuals to:

  • Recognize the warning signs of suicide
  • Know how to offer hope
  • Know how to get additional help and share resources

This training can empower people to feel more confident in recognizing the signs and symptoms of suicidality and intervening to support those in need. AllHealth Network’s Community Engagement Team offers free QPR trainings to businesses, social groups, and community organizations throughout the state of Colorado. This training is open to everyone, regardless of whether they are an AllHealth Network client or not.
